2021 Foremen Applications Process

The Joint Foremen’s Labor Relations Committee (JFLRC) will be accepting applications for foremen registration. Online Application Forms will be made available at selfservice.pmanet.org using the directions outlined in the Foreman Application Flyer commencing on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. If you wish to apply, you must complete the Online Application Form and submit it online at the pmanet.org website by Wednesday, June 30, 2021. All applications must be submitted electronically at the website provided. 

Only longshore workers and clerks who:

            (1) are currently registered as Class A workers in Local 13 or 63, and

(2) have 10 years Class A registration in Locals 13, 63, 46 and/or 29 as of June 30, 2021 , with

(3) the minimum Qualifying Hours (described in Exhibit A), are eligible to apply to become a foreman in the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach.

Pension and Welfare Coverage during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Attention Members:

We are pleased to share the attached March 29, 2021 ILWU Coast Committee Memo concerning their recent agreement with PMA to maintain Welfare and Pension Plans coverage for ILWU members impacted by working less hours during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Notable highlights for Welfare Plan Coverage:  if a member did not work and/or was not credited at least 800 hours in 2020 to maintain Welfare coverage in 2021,  he/she will maintain Welfare coverage in 2021 so long as he/she worked at least one (1) hour in 2020.

Notable highlights for Pension Plan Coverage:  If a member did not work and/or was not credited at least 1300 hours in 2020 to earn a full pension-qualifying year in 2020, he/she will be credited with additional pension qualifying hours in 2020 for any hours worked above 1,300  hours in 2021, 2022, and 2023 until he/she reaches 1,300 hours in 2020 for a full pension-qualifying year.

Online GST and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Classes

Attention Members:

Please be aware that starting today, PMA has begun sending out notification letters to members scheduling them for online General Safety Training (GST) and California Sexual Harassment Prevention Training classes.  During this online Pilot Program, you will have the option of completing the courses online or via an app that you will download.   Also, for members that do not a smart phone or computer, you will have the option to schedule in-person training classes.    Once members have completed both courses, a notification will be sent to PMA and you will be paid for completing these courses.
