Caltrans Update – Vincent Thomas Bridge Overnight Closures – Tues 5/26 – Fri 5/29

Overnight Closures of Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro There will be no closures Sunday or Monday night in observance of Memorial Day
SAN PEDRO — Caltrans (District 7) will implement overnight closures of westbound State Route 47 (SR-47) at Vincent Thomas Bridge between Ferry Street and Harbor Boulevard beginning Tuesday night, May 26. Closures will occur nightly from 10:45 p.m. to 6:45 a.m., Tuesday night through Friday morning. Additionally, the westbound SR-47 on-ramp at Ferry Street will be closed during these overnight closures. Initial construction activities include the installation of an under-deck shield and working platform, as well as staircases for crews to access the bridge deck from multiple locations, ahead of the full bridge closure scheduled for November 1, 2026. Overnight closures in the eastbound direction will begin at a later date. Caltrans will provide advance notification before they are implemented. The overnight closure work is expected to continue through summer 2026, with occasional overnight closures occurring in the fall. Daytime construction activities will not require bridge closures. During the westbound overnight closures, traffic will be detoured via SR- 47 to Route 103 to Pacific Coast Highway to Route 110. (See map below) This work is part of the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project. A critical infrastructure project totaling $752.8 million, the deck replacement will require partial and full closures of the bridge over the next two years. More information is available at the project website. Skanska-CEC Joint Venture is the general contractor for the project. Due to weather or operational factors, the schedule is subject to change, including dates and times, the number of closures, and other details. Motorists should expect delays when utilizing the Vincent Thomas Bridge and use Caltrans Quickmap to review current traffic conditions before traveling. Caltrans reminds drivers to exercise increased caution near the closure and Slow for the Cone Zone.

24th Annual Longshore Memoriam – “First Blood” Ceremony
On Friday, May 15th, the Local 63 Officers attended the 24th Annual Longshore Memoriam on the occasion of the 92nd Anniversary of the 1934 West Coast Strike, a tribute to Harry Bridges and our fallen Brothers and Sisters. The solemn event is always hosted by our ILWU Southern California Pensioners on behalf of ILWU Locals 63, 13, and 94.

CHP Traffic Break Activity Beginning at 10:15 pm on Wednesday, May 6 – Vincent Thomas Bridge Survey Work

TRAFFIC ALERT: Overnight Traffic Breaks on Eastbound Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro
SAN PEDRO —Caltrans (District 7), in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), will conduct traffic breaks at the beginning of the eastbound Vincent Thomas Bridge (State Route 47) in San Pedro for survey work. Traffic breaks will occur for approximately five minutes, twice each hour, from 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. CHP officers will slow traffic at the following locations: Channel Street on-ramp to eastbound State Route 47 (SR-47) Northbound Interstate 110 (I-110) near N. Gaffey Street to eastbound SR-47Connector from southbound I-110 to eastbound SR-47 This work is part of the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project.
