Attention members,

South Coast Air Quality Management District is meeting Friday February 3rd to vote on a “backstop” plan on that will open the door on automation on all terminals. This plan will seek funding from legislation, public funding, and is seeking to impose a container fee of $35.00 per TEU for this project. This backstop plan will be implemented when other plans do not meet the expectations of meeting air quality levels. This would result in our tax money purchasing Zero emission technology. We will have numerous representation from the ILWU but still we are requesting your presence in support against this backstop. Clean air is important to us all. It is especially important with those members who live near and around the Ports, but there are ways to achieve great air quality, and preserve jobs through electric human driven equipment.

All ILWU members, family, friends, neighbors welcomed and encouraged to attend to support clean air, but not automation which will eliminate good longshore and other port-related jobs!
